Professor Garret is currently a Black Belt under world renowned competitor/instructor Tom DeBlass. Garret began his journey on the mats when he was 6 years old, being a part of the Berkley Mat Rats wrestling program. He wrestled all the way through high school at Central Regional and was a 3 year varsity wrestler. Garret was a member of 2 state championship teams, wrestling in the highly touted Shore Conference Garret found both team and individual success on the mats.
After high school Garret earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from ocean county college. Garret was working as a class 1 officer when he started his Jiu-Jitsu journey. Garret then went on to the Ocean County Police Academy to become a class 2 officer. He graduated with the highest overall grade in his class along with the first recruit in 18 years to earn a perfect physical test score. While working as a Class 2 officer Garret began to teach at Ocean County BJJ and also go back to his Alma matter to coach wrestling.

Professor Garret juggled a full time job, teaching and being a competitor all at once. During this time he took 3rd at the Pan-Ams in lightweight and the open weight class. Garret also won ADCC nationals as well as many other regional tournaments (Goodfights/grappler quests/Fight2win/UGA).
